NarrativeDied of Spanish Flu at Camp Hancock, Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia. Buried Lakeview Cemetery, Windom, Cottonwood County, Minnesota. Plot: H-18, card 22 #509 Son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Nelson of Windom, Minn. Entered the service at Windom, Minn., Sept. 4, 1918. and was sent to Camp Grant, 111. After a few days there he was transferred to Camp Hancock, Ga. On his arrival there he was taken sick with influenza pneumonia and died Oct. 5, 1918. His body was shipped to Windom and the funeral was held on the court house grounds, and after the service the body was escorted to Lake View cemetery by the Home Guard's and buried with military honors. Private Nelson was born Oct. 12, 1896, and died just 30 days after he entered the service. |
