Robert “Bob” Edward Witt was born October 28, 1951 to the late Ernst and Verna (Winterhof) Witt in Windom. He attended grade school in Bingham Lake and graduated from Mountain Lake High School in 1969. Bob enjoyed playing basketball while in high school. He was drafted into the Army in 1970 and was stationed in Germany until October, 1972. On December 30, 1972 Bob was united in marriage to Diane Stanton in Windom. From this union two daughters were born; Jennifer and Lana. Bob was always a hard worker and while growing up and after graduating, he farmed with his father and brother, Wayne. Bob was always eager to help anyone in need. In 1993, after crop failure, Bob went to school for two years (while also holding down a full-time job) to become an electrician. He enjoyed working with people and always made friends wherever he went.

In January 2008, Bob was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer. He had surgery, oral chemotherapy, and radiation treatments. He was left with right-sided impairment that prevented him from returning to his vocation as an electrician. This was something he missed very much. Over the subsequent years, there were many doctor visits and tests, another round of chemotherapy, and more limitations. Bob’s brain cancer returned in June 2017. In spite of the limitations, there was much gained also, through this disease. The hand of the Lord could be seen in many of the trials, through the people who ministered to Bob in many different ways. Bob is quoted as saying, “This (the cancer) was a good, bad happening.” Bob was able to maintain his joyful, humorous spirit. He always had a smile on his face. He loved his family and the Lord.

Bob enjoyed following the local youth in their sporting events, visiting and helping in his daughter’s daycare. Bob also enjoyed going to church and served in many capacities from usher, Sunday school teacher, AWANA leader, Christian Education director, council member, and youth leader. He also served on the Windom Cenex Board for several years. Most of all, Bob loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Bob recently became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society-Sogge Memorial in Windom where he passed away on April 3, 2018, at the age of 66 years.

Bob is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Diane of Bingham Lake; daughters Jennifer (Derek) Erickson of Mountain Lake; Lana Witt of Bingham Lake; grandchildren, Anika Klassen and Nathaniel Klassen; siblings, Larry (Nancy) Witt of New York Mills; Jane Kirschenmann of Rapid City, SD; Betty (Rod) Banks of Wausau, NE; Wayne (Caroline) Witt of Bingham Lake; brother-in-laws, Rick Bothwell, of Moose Lake; Dale (Brenda) Stanton of Cologne; sister-in-laws, Dona (Jim) Prusak of Cloquet; Dawn (Eric) Bretzman of Eagle Lake; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary Bothwell and brother-in-law Rick Kirschenmann.
