James Philip Crawford was born on August 3, 1920 in Beaver Creek, MN, the son of James Seth & Bessie Elizabeth (Schenck) Crawford. He graduated from Mankato Teachers College and the University of MN. He married Shirley Mathel Schultz on June 17, 1944 in Laguna Beach, CA. James was a Captain in the US Marine Corps and served overseas as a dive bomber pilot during WWII. He and his family moved to Mt. Lake in 1951 where he taught Agriculture for 30 years. Shirley preceded him in death. He married Gladys (Schultz) Junker on October 2, 1982 in Mt. Lake. James was a Youth For Christ Director, MN Vo-Ag Teacher of the Year in 1971, WCCO "Good Neighbor" award in 1971, established the FFA Children's Barn Yard at the MN State Fair, recipient of Honorary State & American Farmer Degrees, State Fair Appreciation Award, FFA Hall of Fame and a host of other awards. He was a member of the American Legion and a member of the Alliance Missionary Church where he was an Elder, served on the Governing Board, Building Committee and taught Sunday School. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, trapping and woodworking.

James is survived by his wife, Gladys Crawford of Mt. Lake, children, Jim (special friend Barb) Crawford of Mt. Lake, Mary (Harvey) Ratzloff of Rochester, Jeannie (Joe) Newman of Ramsey, Joannie (Bob) Morton of St. Croix Falls, WI, Pat (Bill) Anderson of Mt. Vernon, MO, John (Diane) Crawford of Hendersonville, TN, Mike (Diana) Herman of Northfield, step daughters, Ramona Junker & Wendy Voshage, 17 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 13 step great grandchildren, brothers, Harold (Eleanor) of Green Valley, AZ, John of Luverne and Francis (JoAnn) of St. Cloud. James was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Shirley, brother, Howard & sisters-in-law, Carolyn & June.
