Sergeant Kenneth Schuster, of Pine River, one of the first Selective Service men to join the 135th Regiment of the 34th Red Bull Infantry Division... Kenneth sailed to Ireland with one of the first contingents to train there. He was in the bitter fighting in Tunisia, including such major engagements as Foudouk Gap and Hill 609. During the Italian campaign, Schuster was in action at the crossing of the Volturno River, Cassino, Anzio Beachhead, Roame, Leghorn, Pisa and the Gothic Line. For the past few months he has been serving as company transportation sergeant. He has been awarded the combat infantryman badge and wears three battle stars on his European theater ribbon. Kenneth was cited for devotion to duty by his commanding officer. He voluntarily took vehicles over roads suspected of being mined or under heavy enemy fire to insure the maintenance of a steady flow of ammunition and food to his company's forward positions.

Kenneth was a charter member of the Pine River American Legion and was a loyal member for 60 years.
