Principal Units and Locations

Seaman 1st Class, Olfert was critically injured by a Kamikaze plane on 25 Oct 1944 at 0804 hours while serving aboard the Escort Carrier, USS Suwannee (CVE-27). He was transferred to the USS Sangamon (CVE-26) where he died of his injuries on 2 Nov 1944, age 19. He was buried at sea by administrative decision.
