Don Lange | |
NarrativeOn Nov. 9, 1947, Don enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed in San Diego in the Air Transport Squadron and in Seattle. He was honorably discharged April 21, 1950, earning the Asiatic Pacific, American Area, and Victory Medals of WWII. On Oct. 16, 1950, he reentered into active service as an Aviation Machinist Mate Airman assigned to the U.S.S. Essex (CVA 9) stationed in Kodiak, Alaska, and the Navel Station in Adak, Alaska, Patrol Squadron 2 at Whidbey Island, Wash., and also in the Korean campaign. There he was decorated with the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Ribbon and the United Nations Service Ribbon. While in Alaska, he met Air Force Staff Sargeant Harold Disrud who introduced him to the love of his life, Deloris May Disrud. Don was discharged Sept. 10, 1954, and moved to Brainerd. Don was proud to serve his country. He passed away May 3, 2012 and is buried at the State Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley. |
