NarrativeRoger joined the Minnesota Army National Guard in November of 1952. He requested active duty and was called from inactive duty to the active army on April 6, 1954. He completed basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood MO. He attended Signal Corp School at Ft. Gordon GA from July 1954 until January 1955 and was trained as a high speed radio operator. He was sent to Germany and was a part of the United State Army Europe (USAREUR). He was a member of the 7774th Signal Battalion and assigned to detachments in Pirmasens Germany and Angeviller France, a small village south of Luxemburg. Roger was released from active duty on 30 March 1956 and from the Guard in 1958. Roger enjoyed his time on active duty and made many lifelong friends. He was able to travel throughout post war Europe and saw sights in Germany, France. |
