Promotion to Lieutenant Colonel O. J. Quane:

Maj. O. J. Quane Made Lieutenant Colonel St. Peter Free Press 1/27/1917

Major Oliver J. Quane was elected as lieutenant-colonel of the Second Minnesota at Fort Snelling Tuesday afternoon. he succeeds Capt. Charles H. Danfert of the regular army, who had that position while the regiment was in camp at the Mexican border, and who returned to his post in the east when the Second Minnesota was mustered out at Fort Snelling.

Capt. Danfert was asked to give his recommendation as to what major in the regiment was best fitted for the position. Without any hesitation he replied, "I consider Major Quane the best major in the Second regiment and one of the best of the entire Minnesota brigade. He is not only a good officer for the militia but would make an excellent officer for the regular army." Capt. Larson of Company M, of Madison, chosen to succeed Major Quane has been senior captain of the regiment for several years and did battalion duty in LLano Grande. He is also country treasurer of Lac que Parle County. The colonel is in high demand by neighboring companies. On Thursday evening he and his wife attended a banquet given to Company H of Mankato; and yesterday evening they attended a banquet given by the citizens of Fairmount, Martin County, for Company E.
