NarrativeFred joined the Navy after graduating from Brandon High School in 1959. Boot camp was at Great Lakes, then to NATTC Memphis, attending AK "A" school. Next orders were to Navy Squadron VX-6 at NAS Quonset Pt, RI, The squadron supported Operation Deep Freeze in Antarctica. Fred participated in the 1963 and 1964 summer support operation at McMurdo Sound and then wintered over at McMurdo with VX-6 Det Alfa in 1964. Fred continued to serve in the Navy at various duty stations and retired as a Master Chief with over 26 years service on June 30. 1985. |
