Narrative

Colonel Leslie F. Chisholm enlisted into the Minnesota Army National Guard in June 1959 and served as an Ordnance Supply Specialist with Hq & Co A, 747th Maint Bn Cp Ripley, MN until August 1961. He then transferred to the Idaho Army National Guard and served as a Recon Sergeant with HHB 1st BN 148th (155/SP) Artillery. After completing Officer Candidate School (1963) he had assignments as Asst XO, in C Btry and then as Air Observer in Hq Hq Btry of that Battalion. In 1965, 1LT Chisholm, was accepted for Active Duty. During this Active Duty period he held various assignments from Company thru Corps level at Ft Knox, Ky, Schofield Barracks, HI, Ft Benning, GA, Ft Lawton, WA, Savanna Army Depot, Il and Ft McCoy, WI. Assignments like: Company Commander (Twice), Post Adjutant, Bn S-3, Inspector General, Dir Personnel & Community Activities and Advisor to USAR units. Overseas assignments were Vietnam, where he performed duties of Liaison Officer, Air Observer /Forward Observer supporting the 3rd Marine Division, and Advisor to the Republic of Vietnam Army. In Korea he served and as Adjutant General for I Corps (ROK/US) Group, a joint US Korean Headquarters. On release from active duty service in October 1976, COL Chisholm returned to the Minnesota National Guard where he served from 1977-1981 in the positions of Admin officer with ARNG Training Site Camp Ripley, Military Support Officer (STARC-MN) XO 47th S&T Bn and MNARNG Training Officer. In 1982 he again went on Active Duty thru the Army’s Tours Program. From 1982-1988 he served as the Cp Ripley Mobilization Officer/Deputy Commander, MNARNG Training Officer and the Assistant Commandant for the Minnesota Military Academy. His final assignment 1989-1991 he served as Chief of Staff, Hq TEARC US Virgin Islands.
