Narrative

Command Sergeant Major (Retired) Douglas L. Julin most recent assignment was as the Division Command Sergeant Major of the 34th “Red Bull” Infantry Division, headquartered in Rosemount, Minnesota

CSM (R) Julin enlisted into the Minnesota Army National Guard with Company C, 2nd Battalion, 136th Infantry of Bemidji, Minnesota, in March of 1977. He continued serving with 2-136th Infantry until he moved to Colorado for a civilian work opportunity in 1980 transferring into Battery C, 2nd Battalion, and 157th Field Artillery of the Colorado Army National Guard located in Pueblo, Colorado. He served as a cargo carrier driver, gunner, and section chief of an 8-inch self-propelled howitzer platoon.

In December of 1983, CSM (R) Julin returned to Minnesota and the Minnesota Army National Guard and served as Fire Direction Computer Operator with Battery A, 1st Battalion, 151st Field Artillery in Cloquet, Minnesota, until April of 1985, when he transferred to Company C, 2-136 Infantry in Park Rapids, Minnesota. As a member of Company C, CSM (R) Julin served as a crew leader, squad leader, section leader and platoon sergeant of the Battalion Scout Platoon. In June of 1993, CSM (R) Julin transferred and was promoted to 1st Sergeant of Company E, 2-136 Infantry in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. In September of 1995, CSM (R) Julin was promoted to Sergeant Major and transferred to Headquarters Company, 84th Troop Command Roseville, Minnesota.

On 1 June of 1997, SGM Julin was promoted to Command Sergeant Major of 84th Troop Command. CSM (R) Julin held this position until January 1, 1998, when he was assigned as the CSM of Headquarters, 1st Battalion, and 94th Armor, of Duluth, Minnesota, which was re-designated as Headquarters, 2nd Battalion, 194th Armor as of 1 June 2002. On 1 December, 2002, CSM (R) Julin was transferred to Headquarters, 1st Brigade, and 34th Infantry Division as the Brigade Command Sergeant Major, serving through their OIF deployment and their reintegration in November 2007.

On 17 November 2007, CSM (R) Julin assumed the position of Division Command Sergeant Major 34th Infantry Division as the Division Command Sergeant Major serving through its OIF deployment and reintegration in February 2010.

CSM (R) Julin retired from the Minnesota Army National Guard and the United States Army in June of 2012 after serving over 35 years.
