The boy had been in France only a short time. The letter stated that he was buried with full military honors the company taking part in the service.

Mr. & Mrs. Wiens have another son in the service in France."

From the Cottonwood County Citizen 11/27/1918:

"Mr. & Mrs. C. C. Wiens, Bingham Lake, received information from the War Department that their son, Private Cornelius Wiens, who was a member of Company L, 341st Infantry, U.S.A., died October 12th, at 7:30 P.M. in France, after being taken ill with a severe cold, which developed into pneumonia. The letter stated that Private Wiens was buried with full military honors, and a Protestant service was held over the remains, in which the members of the Company took part. The deceased was in poor health when leaving for Camp, as his parents state, and the news of his departure to the Great Beyond was not entirely unexpected to them. Another brother of the deceased is still in France. - Mt. Lake View"
